BLOG TOUR: Falling to Pieces by Jamie Canosa

FIVE STARS TO FALLING TO PIECES

Jamie Canosa’s Falling To Pieces is a beautiful story of love, strength, hope, and belief in oneself.
I can’t describe how much I absolutely adored Falling to Pieces. This story wrecked me, like completely wrecked me from the inside out.
I’ll let my heartbroken messages and Facebook statuses speak for me:

It’s the story of Jade Carlson, a young girl with scars deeper than the ordinary eye can see. Jade deals with the worst kind of hate at school, and due to her low self-esteem, she imagines that everyone is insulting her even if they aren’t. I thought this was an extremely realistic portrayal of someone who deals with bullying and insecurities, because some of the people around her are saying one thing, but Jade is hearing another. Furthermore, Doug, Jade’s douchebag boyfriend doesn’t even try to put a filter on: he puts her down every chance he gets and treats her as subhuman. As though being the odd girl out in school isn’t bad enough, Jade’s Hell continues even after she’s returned home. Whereas home is meant to be a safe haven for most, for Jade, that’s a foreign concept, thanks to her moody, alcoholic, verbally abusive mother.
But once Kiernan Parks waltzes back into her life, he’s a lot more than a knight in shining armor. Kiernan’s goal isn’t to save Jade. He helps her put the broken pieces of herself back together, and helps her start to actually live her life, rather than just go through the motions. He helps rid her of Doug—thank God—and he becomes the friend she’s always needed.
Jade and Kiernan’s friendship and subsequent relationship is a bit out of the ordinary. Kiernan brings light, laughter, and happiness into Jade’s life, even if at first she’s reluctant to accept it.
The two best parts of any story, in my opinion, are:
a) The moment when the characters confess their feelings for each other, and
b) Spectacular minor characters.
In Falling to Pieces, both are in full effect. Kiernan’s mother and his brother Caulder are two minor characters who refused to go unnoticed. Cal stepped in to protect and take care of Jade just like Kiernan did, and his mother is Heaven sent. The two of them make the pieces of Falling to Pieces fit perfectly together. And furthermore, the moment when Jade and Kiernan tell each other their feelings is one of my favorite love scenes ever written. It’s innocent and beautiful, and it shows love in its purest form. Kiernan and Jade’s love story is one for the ages, and I look forward to seeing what happens next.
No matter your age or reading preferences, this is a love story you'll want to reread over and over again.
Personally, I wish that I was able to give Falling to Pieces more than FIVE STARS because this is the first book since my three day read through of Les Miserables at 14 that had me questioning everything I thought I knew about my life. I didn’t just relate to Jade. I was Jade, all through high school, so this book and all of Jade’s experiences made me relive all of mine.
What I looked like during 75% of Falling to Pieces. No lie.
Jamie Canosa is a master storyteller, and she really brought these characters to life in a way that I never thought was possible. She creates beautifully broken female characters who have all the tools to believe in themselves, they just need someone to show them the light, and her male characters are the kind of characters a reader can fall in love with time after time as the pages turn, and bring hope to all who have the pleasure of reading their story. I highly recommend Falling to Pieces to fans of YA, and I will warn to keep some tissues handy, because I rate FtP a Farrah on my ugly-cry scale of 1 to Farrah Abraham.

FAVORITE QUOTES:
·         “Trust me, love can be the most painful thing there is.” –Kiernan
·         “If even one of your brain cells thinks I’m strapping a couple thin slabs of wood to my feet and sailing down the side of a mountain, it must be diseased.” –Jade
·         “Good things do happen, Jade.” Kiernan scooted his chair closer. “It’s okay to have hope.”
·         “You can’t keep hiding from everyone because it’s not just them you’re hiding from. You’re hiding from yourself. And if you keep that up, you’ll start to forget who you really are.” -Kiernan
·         “I hurt.” The answer was simple enough, but it seemed to confuse him further.
“Where do you hurt?”
“My heart.” Alcohol, the great lip-loosener. I wanted to smack myself, but that would have required too much coordination. And effort. “My heart hurts, Kiernan.”
EXCERPT:
“Then it’s your mother. What did she do to you last night?”
“Nothing.” I gave up the futile attempt at escape I’d been trying to make. The look on his face said he wasn’t letting me go until he got some answers. “She’s never laid a hand on me, if that’s what you’re thinking.”
Kiernan’s shoulders slouched, bringing him closer to my eye level. “There are different wounds people can inflict on us, Jade. Just because yours aren’t physical doesn’t mean they aren’t there. Just because they aren’t visible doesn’t mean I can’t see them.”
He always had a way of making my heart melt in the absolute worst way. He reached right inside that locked box like he was the key and smashed it all to pieces. But that box was my safe place, my protection. I needed it.
     “Kiernan…I can’t do this.”
     “Can’t do what?”
“This.” My hand waved between the two of us. “Whatever it is we’re doing, I can’t. I’m sorry. I really am.”
I expected confusion, maybe even anger. I was sure Kiernan Parks wasn’t used to being dumped. Especially by the likes of me. But I didn’t get either. I didn’t get anything. He just stood there, watching me until he simply said, “No.”

     “No?”
“No, Jade. I’m not letting you do this. I’m not going to let you push me away. You’re scared. I get that. Believe me. I’m scared, too. But I can’t let you do this. I can’t stand here and watch you crawl back inside that shell of yours. I won’t give up on you, Jade. Not ever.”

Blog Tour Stop: Resisting Atlantis by Jamie Canosa

BLOG TOUR STOP: FIVE STAR FOR JAMIE CANOSA’S RESISTING ATLANTIS

If you follow my blog, you know that Jamie Canosa is one of my favorite authors ever. It was her novel, Fight or Flight that introduced me to the world of indie authors, and I’m damn thankful for it, too.

Every book of hers that I’ve read so far has gone above and beyond all of my expectations. I’ve been an avid reader since I was five years old, and there are very few authors that I’ll say, “They could rewrite the Three Little Pigs on a roll of toilet paper and I’d buy it” about. Jamie Canosa is one of those few.

Her writing style is flawless. I only discovered her last year, and out of all the books that I’ve read of hers, this is the first I’ve read that was written in first person. First person POV + Jamie= me being a happy camper. I LOVE being able to get inside the characters’ heads and see everything in their world exactly how they see it, and this POV was perfect for Resisting Atlantis.

I’d like to point out that I signed up for this blog tour without even reading the synopsis, without knowing a single thing about this book except for the fact that Jamie wrote it. She’s that much of a badass.

SYNOPSIS: What if everything you think you know . . . is wrong?

Cora is your average college freshman. Battling the evils of boring classes and noisy dorms, her greatest concern is how to attract the attention of the drool-worthy, party-god next door.

That is, until Kaden comes barging into her life, insisting everything she knows is false. The family and friends she grew up with don’t exist. Her entire past a carefully-crafted fabrication, created to replace the truth.

Her name isn’t Cora, it’s Cameron. And she isn’t from New York. She hails from Atlantis. Yeah, that Atlantis. Oh yeah, and she’s psychic.

Crazy, right?

Except, tall, dark, and out-of-his-ever-loving-mind doesn’t come alone. Trouble follows, thrusting Cameron back into a world she can’t remember and a life she must reclaim if they’re going to make it out alive.

But there's someone out there who doesn't want her to remember.

Why I gave Resisting Atlantis FIVE STARS:
WOW FACTOR: I couldn’t stop reading. I adored Cora immediately and Kaden seriously could give Jay a run for his money (sorry, Jay, I still love you). From the very first page, I was incredibly emotionally invested in this story. I needed answers to everything, and I would not walk away and put the book down until I got all the answers I needed.
I stayed up all night trying to finish this, and I only gave in to my exhaustion when the words started to blur and I couldn’t keep my eyes open anymore. This book is that amazing.
While the novel is, in my opinion, fast-paced, it’s done so well that I could pretty much forget about the fact that Cora/Cam’s life is uprooted almost immediately after she ‘meets’ Kaden.

CHARACTERS:
Cora/Cameron: I have to admire Cam for the fact that even though she’s force to question everything that she thought she knew about her life and her world, she trusts Kaden implicitly. She’s not naïve, because really, who trusts someone they don’t even know and lets them pull them out of their world and into another? Her heart knows Kaden, and that’s good enough for Cam—which is good enough for me.
Kaden: Kaden has my heart. This guy is perfect, protective, and willing to keep Cora/Cam from getting hurt at all costs. He’s incredibly sweet, caring, and all-around one of my favorite leading men of all time. He’s so dedicated to helping Cam to remember, and fighting for his cause. On a scale of 1-Jay, Kaden’s about a 9, which is pretty damn close to Jay (sorry, I can’t help but compare these two, as they’re so much alike in my eyes).
PLOT: Resisting Atlantis is one of those novels where mystery keeps you going. From the very first page, all that I had was unanswered questions, and that drove me to read until the last page.  Cora is confronted by Kaden, who claims that she isn’t who she thinks she is. Wait, WHAT? You confused yet? So was I, but let me reiterate something: Jamie NEVER disappoints.
As the story progresses, each question that’s swimming around in my head gets answered, one by one, and each answer shocks me more than the one before.
Atlantis is a setting unlike any other. In a world outside of the human world, Cameron begins to find out that Kaden is right, and her entire life is turned upside down. Her memories are fabricated, and she remembers nothing of her old life, while Kaden remembers all of it, and he makes it his mission to help jog her memory.
Thrust into a world she doesn’t remember, Cameron finds out she is part of the Resistance, helping stage a revolution against ‘evil’.
The plot is amazingly well-crafted, and every word that Jamie writes will keep you invested in Kaden and Cam’s story up until the very end.
FAVORITE QUOTES:
“I know I’m asking a lot. And I know they screwed with your head.” Kaden steps closer, blocking the horrifying view until all I see are his amber eyes staring into mine. I swear they radiate a warmth I can feel. “So make this decision with your heart. Do. You. Trust me?” –Kaden
“You’re tired.” It isn’t until Elias sets a hand on my shoulder that I realize just how sweaty I’ve gotten. Gross. “You can’t focus when you’re this tired. Let’s call it quits for today. We can try again tomorrow.” -Kaden
Oh goodie, something to look forward to. –Cam
“She needs me.” It’s very simple from where I’m standing. Cam’s upset and it’s at least partially my fault, which makes it my job to make it better. -Kaden
Strong? He thinks I’m strong? There are a lot of things I might label myself—clueless, afraid, and useless chief among them—but not strong. That’s what I wish I was.  –Cam
“You’re not alone, Cam. You’re surrounded by people who care about you.” He gives my fingers a light squeeze. “And I’m here.” –Kaden

EXCERPT:
I can’t shut my mouth on the truth-vomit fast enough. Her eyes bulge and I know it’s too late to reach out and shove the words back down my throat.
“From where?”
I consider backpedaling for about half a second, but they’ve taken the truth and hidden it from her. I won’t be guilty of doing the same. Dropping my forehead into my hands, I prepare myself for the reaction I’m about to earn. “I realize this is going to sound . . .”
“Crazy?” she supplies, and I nod miserably into my palms.
I have to force my head up to face her. “I can prove it.”
“That you’re crazy? Task accomplished.” There’s a glimpse of the girl I know and it gives me hope. They may have altered her memories, but she’s still the same person underneath.

I highly recommend RESISTING ATLANTIS to anyone who will listen. Jamie has outdone herself this time, and I can't wait to read more from this amazing author!

Blog Tour Stop: 5 Star Review for Now or Never by Jamie Canosa

I was given a copy of Now or Never as an ARC from the lovely Jamie Canosa, and below you will find my review. First off, let me start by saying that you have to read Fight or Flight. If you have, great. If you haven’t, you might want to.

I read Fight or Flight months ago, and upon finding out that there would be a sequel, I found myself counting down the days until I could see what would happen next with Jay and Em. Because of that, I had extremely high expectations for Now or Never.

Let me be the first to say that Jamie has far exceeded those expectations. Jay and Em met on the streets, homeless runaways trying to keep themselves safe from their haunted pasts. They are immediately drawn to each other and they fall in love (I’m skipping all the really juicy details because I seriously want you to read Fight or Flight and see how amazingly both stories fit together).

How I felt when I finished reading Now or Never.
NON picks up where FOF ended. Jay and Em are living together, trying to make ends meet, and nothing is much different than when they lived on the streets except for the fact that they’ve got somewhere to call home and at least a little bit of money to keep themselves afloat. It is beautifully written, suspenseful, and led me on an emotional roller coaster that I never wanted to get off of.

There is so much that I can say about this book, and I honestly don’t want to give anything away. I told myself before I started reading that I would read it with an open mind and try to be impartial about it, even though I was sure I was in love with Jay, and didn’t want my love for him to cloud my judgment (verdict: I’m still very much in love with him). Putting my infatuation with him aside, there was absolutely nothing wrong with this book.

Here's an excerpt:

"I left knowing what he was. What did I think? He would just stop? I-I didn't even warn anyone." A sob broke free as she buried her face in her hands.

"Shh." Jay slid across the vinyl bench and pulled her into his arms. She went willingly, for which he was undeniably grateful. "You didn't cause this. You didn't cause any of this, Em. You did what you had to do. You escaped. You survived. That's nothing to be ashamed of."

"But I knew she lived next door. I didn't even--"

"No. I didn't think of it either. My first, last, and only thought was and always will be you, Em."

That scene alone gave me chills.

You know those books where the couple starts off in this honeymoon phase and then shit gets rocky toward the climax?

Now or Never's gorgeous cover!
NON isn’t that kind of book. Jay and Em are damaged, and heartbreakingly so. The book starts off with Jay having a nightmare, and seriously, the ugly crying started there. I was immediately taken back to the day I read FOF (yes, it was so good, I read it all in a day) and I was in math class, my hand yearning to turn on my Kindle and keep reading. That’s exactly what happened with FOF. I had an exam to take, and all throughout the exam, all I could think about is “What the HELL is going to happen next?” Yes, it’s THAT brilliant.

It ultimately broke my heart that even though things are slightly better, both Jay and Em have some serious shit that they need to work through. They love each other deeply, more deeply than anyone can fathom (*cough* Mason *cough*. Okay, sorry, I actually do like Mason). What’s more, is that although Em is far from a damsel in distress (she’s damaged, but Em is not weak, not by a longshot), all that Jay wants to do is protect her. Not protection in that overbearing fatherly way, but protection in the way that he would do anything to keep from hurting her, or watch her get hurt (Mason is on the receiving end of that anything, ha ha).

Honestly, the only thing that bothered me was the fact that even though Jay and Em love each other, even though they would do anything to protect each other, they can’t see themselves as the wonderfully beautiful human beings that they are, and that is devastating.

What I loved the most though was the extreme difference between FOF and NON. In the first, Jay and Em are virtually on their own (even though there’s an appearance from Al, who I luuurve—Buy Al’s story, Sink or Swim, here) and they have no one that they can trust. In the latter, however, Jay and Em find actual friendship. Mason cares about Em (perhaps more than he should, hence him being on the receiving end of Jay’s anything, which was incredibly hot, by the way). He’s nearly as protective of her as Jay is—however, he’s missing the piece of the puzzle as to why—which is pretty awesome in my book. And then there’s Ashlyn. Oh, man, do I LOVE Ashlyn! She is spunky and awesome and hilarious, and even though she’s big on gossip, she really just wants to be Em’s friend and support her, no strings attached—which is something that Em desperately needs. And even though Jay was being a total asshat for a while—still love you, Jay—Ashlyn wants to be his friend as well. Neither of them has ever had a friend like that, but I think everyone needs a friend like that.

I don’t normally give 5 star reviews. I’m really picky about who I give that 5th star to. And even though I’m in love with Jay, I did my best to be totally and completely impartial, and I am positive that Now or Never is deserving of my 5th star.

Here’s why:
-Jay. I seriously don’t need to say anymore.

-I got irritated with my family members because they were making too much noise while I was trying to read. I legit had to turn up the volume and put my headphones in and drown them out.

-I ugly cried like nobody’s business. I stopped eating my dinner, pushed away from the table, and honestly had my hand to my mouth the entire last few chapters, trying to stifle my sobs as rivers upon rivers of ugly tears streamed down my face. It takes a lot to get that type of reaction out of me, so kudos, Jamie.

-When I realized I was about to get to the end, I almost wanted to stop reading. I didn’t want it to be over. I wanted it to keep going forever and ever until Jay and Em got married and had babies and oh my god it just can’t be over is there another installment coming Jamie because I need another installment my heart couldn’t take it if this was the end so if there’s more to this story please tell me when its coming so I can count down the days. (Yeah, it’s that fucking brilliant).

-I loved Ashlyn and Mason (happy they’re getting their own book, by the way). I honestly believe that the best parts of anyone’s story are the people that they share it with. Ashlyn and Mason were central to this story and honestly, Jay and Em needed them more than they realize.

-Em is a total badass. She thinks she’s weak, she thinks she’s a useless coward (seriously, I kind of want to slap her every time she even thinks this phrase. Like, no, Em. You’re not a useless coward), but she’s not. She’s strong and beautiful and brave and I totally admire her. She’s bent, but she’s not broken. Far from it, my friends.

-I wanted to throw my phone. I seriously contemplated throwing my phone multiple times because this book angered me, then I realized that if I did, it might break, and I wouldn’t be able to keep reading.

-I ugly fucking cried. I cry all the time, over everything. But rarely do I ugly cry. On my list of books I’ve ugly cried reading: My Sister’s Keeper, The Guardian, The Great Gatsby, Les Miserables, The Fault in Our Stars. You see the pattern here? All ah-mazing books. Now or Never is now on that list.

-Jay. Yes I’m repeating this. He’s enough to make me read this again, which I probably will later on today.

So as I end this incredibly long review about how much I loved Now or Never, I’ll leave you all with a few of my most memorable quotes:

-“It is not okay. I know your limits, Em. I understand them. I respect them. And I pushed you too far.” –Jay (seriously, Jay is perfect).

-“Careful. I wouldn’t want to infect you.”
Jay scowled down at her. “When it comes to you, I’m already a goner.”

-“I come bearing pizza. If you don’t let me in, Ash will kick you out.” (Mason)
“It’s true!” Ashlyn’s voice carried from down the hall. “Pizza is the magic word around here. Let the man in.”

-“Maybe simpler isn’t the right word, either. But things were…clearer. I knew exactly where we stood. It was you and me against the world, Jay. And despite those horribly bad odds, we kept coming out on top. Together. We accomplished so much together.” –Em.

-“I’d never had someone waiting for me to come home before. Not ever. That’s when I realized that is what you’d made this place. You’d taken this dank, dilapidated hole in the wall unfit for human occupancy and turned it into a home. My home. Simply because you were there.” –Jay.

-“Slaved over it, huh?” Em eyed the takeout bags in the trash and couldn’t stop the small smile from curving her lips.
“Yeah, well, I drove, and ordered, and lugged it all back here.”-Ash

-She wasn’t a useless coward. Not anymore. She was beautiful. And strong. And brave, dammit. That’s what Jay saw in her. And that was what she needed to see in herself.

-“I’m not weak, either, you son of a bitch.” –Jay.

-“We see each other as whole, and remind each other that those good things are there—inside us—even if we can’t see them ourselves.” –Em.

Now or Never was nothing short of amazing. I'd highly recommend it to anyone who will listen.

Blog Tour Stop: 4.5 Stars for Unspoken Memories by Gabbie S. Duran

Review for Unspoken Memories by Gabbie S. Duran: 4.5  Stars

Here's the synopsis:
She awoke with no memory of who she was, but one clue will lead her to him…

Abigail Adams had it all, she's a gorgeous supermodel, has a wealthy fiancé, and a career on the rise. But that quickly changes when she wakes up in the hospital not remembering anything. The only memories she does have are not her own, but of a total stranger.

When Abigail discovers that her fiancé has been cheating on her, she leaves him and runs to the arms of the one man she is hoping will give her the answers she seeks.

Matt Garcia is used to playing the field, keeping his heart guarded, but then Abigail Adams unexpectedly shows up at his door hoping he will be the answer she is looking for. Will he finally learn to take a break from his no strings attached lifestyle and show her that she doesn’t need her past, but the future he is willing to offer her?

With every unspoken memory she regains, will she learn to open up her heart to a total stranger, or will she keep it guarded like he does?

Unspoken Memories is not your typical story. What immediately hooked me from the very first line was the fact that Abigail Adams, a famous supermodel, does not have any clue who she is. It sounds so cliché, right? Girl loses her memory, girl meets boy, girl and boy fall in love, and then, in a shocking turn of events (insert obvious sarcasm here) girl remembers everything.

Um, nope! This is not that kind of story!

“I can’t leave her, she’s our money ticket!”

That’s what really pulled me in. Abi doesn’t know who’s talking, doesn’t know where she is, but I knew immediately that this line came from someone who was trying desperately to screw her over. What I love is that this book infuriated me.  I went through so many different emotions, but the one I felt the most was fury. I had to stop reading more than once because I would get so angry at Matt, and at Abi, and mostly at Bill. Oh, I hated the shit out of Bill! It takes a lot to anger me—I’m an even-tempered person generally, so anger is a strange emotion—but this book seriously was so good that it evoked even the one emotion I hardly ever feel.

Abi for some reason, has random memories of a phone number, and this phone number leads her to Matt. Matt is sweet, sexy, and protective, especially since he lost his sister Emily. Even so, though, I constantly found myself wanting to punch him (I can’t have been the only one). But he’s good for Abi, he’s a wonderful friend, so I tolerated him (I grew to love him later). He helps her through her horrible breakup with Bill (the douchebag who called her his “money ticket”) and allows her to move into his house.

Matt’s not my favorite, although he’s high up on the list. The real stars of Unspoken Memories in my opinion were Trey, Kelly, and David. The minor characters, I feel, are what truly made this story spectacular. These people are strangers, yet they take Abi in and support her emotionally when she needs it the most. Trey is hilarious, Kelly is the friend every girl wishes she had, and David is Kelly’s perfect boyfriend who I absolutely swooned over. I don't normally fall in love with minor characters, but Kelly, Trey, and David were so well-developed, caring, and hilarious, that I loved them just as much as I did Abi and Matt.

I’ve given Unspoken Memories four and a half stars, and here’s why:
-It infuriated me. This is important. Not any book can make me angry, so the fact that this one accomplished it puts it high up on my list. I had to put down my phone and stop reading for a while, because I had to step off the roller coaster for a little while and prepare myself for what else was to come.

-Even though Matt wasn’t exactly my favorite, he redeemed himself nearly every time he called Abi “beautiful” instead of by her real name. Who wouldn’t swoon over that?

-Abi isn’t some damsel in distress. Yes, she comes running to Matt and Trey’s when she breaks up with Bill, but it isn’t because she needs them to save her. It’s because she has nowhere else to go and she feels safe with them. She is perfectly able to handle and take care of herself. I love that Abigail is a strong, independent woman.

-I LOVED Kelly. Seriously, she’s perf.

-Matt gave me whiplash. I couldn’t tell whether he wanted to be with Abi or if he wanted to simply protect her because she reminded him of his sister. He was so hot and cold in the most irritating of ways, but it worked. I loved him anyway.

-Abigail is very outspoken. She speaks her mind and stands up for herself, even though it’s the last thing you’d expect. It was seriously the last thing I expected. Every time she blew up and said a curse word, I seriously thought, “Oh, shit! Someone’s pissed Abi off!” I love her outspoken personality because women are perceived to be these polite, sweet little things, and Abi totally stomps all over that stereotype.

-Matt and Abi are perfect together, even when it seems like they don’t know whether they want each other or not. They are honestly the cutest couple and I kept having to scream “Just KISS already, you idiots!”

-Trey and Matt are so protective of Abi. It’s not in the annoying big brother way, but in the sweetest way, to the point where they’d murder anyone who even thought about hurting her.

There were so many amazing one-liners in Unspoken Memories, so as I end this review, I’ll leave you with some of my favorite quotes:

-Matt is staring at me with his head cocked to the side. “But, why my number?” He points his finger at himself. “I’ve never met you, and I’m pretty sure we don’t run in the same circle.”

-“What!” they both say at the same time with fury. But it’s Matt who says, “I’m going to kill him!” With Trey saying after him, “Not if I kill that fucker first.”

-“I really doubt I’ll want to call your ex-girlfriend when I’m drunk,” I tell him. -Abigail

-“You’re not going anywhere. This is your home now as much as it is mine.” –Matt

-“Here’s a wakeup call for you, Matthew Garcia, it’s going to take a lot more than you calling me beautiful to get in between my legs. Because I’m worth a lot more than a quick fuck!” –Abigail

-“Anyways, who knows if he’s cleaned the table?” –Trey

-"Damn, girl, if that boy doesn’t declare his love for you when he sees you in this dress, I’m going to have to hit him upside the head with that football he throws around.” –Kelly

-“Damn supermodel, Julio is going to be earning his paycheck tonight. You’re going to have men all over you.” –Trey

-“I’ve loved you since that first night you showed up on my doorstep. That night I knew you were mine and I’m never letting you go.” –Matt

Unspoken Memories was an unexpected jewel. I’m very happy to have been able to read it, and am more than happy to recommend it to you all.

Cover Reveal: Now or Never by Jamie Canosa

Jamie Canosa's novel, Fight or Flight was the first non-Harry Potter, non-Nicholas Sparks, non-Sarah Dessen book I read and fell head over heels in love with. Or maybe it was one of her main characters, Jay. In either case, I've counted down the days until I could read the next installment in Jay and Em's story.

Here is the cover for Now or Never, the next installment of Jay and Em's story, which I fell even more in love with! (I say "next" rather than "final" because I'm hoping this isn't the end teehee).

Now, isn't that cover gorgeee? I'm not saying this because I love Jamie (or Jay). I seriously love the cover.

Here's the synopsis:

To move on,
Leave the past behind,
And build a new life with Jay.

That’s all Em wanted. After everything they’d been through together, they were both overdue their ‘happily ever after’. Too bad the world doesn’t work that way. Memories last longer than dreams and Em’s fears continue to plague her both day and night, interfering with that new life she so desperately craves.

To start over,
Secure a future,
And give Em the life she deserves.

That was Jay’s plan, but the past isn’t done with them, yet. While Em still struggles to overcome the ghosts of her past, Jay is forced to come face to face with his. When the skeletons in his closet step back into the light, Jay must decide what he will do—and what he will sacrifice—to protect Em from them.

Against all odds, Em and Jay are on the verge of having everything they’ve ever wanted. They’ve fought for it before, but is their love strong enough to endure any more heartache? The time has come for each of them to choose for themselves whether or not they will allow the past to continue to corrupt their future. And, together, they must decide, will it be . . . NOW OR NEVER?

I'd like to mention that I received an ARC of Now or Never, so look for my review of it during the blog tour on October 26th!

Reflect Me

I was given a copy of K.B. Webb’s novel, Reflect Me as an ARC. It was not in exchange for a review, but I loved it so much that I couldn’t imagine not giving one. I actually finished Reflect Me less than ten minutes ago, and I am still so in shock by the sheer brilliance that is this book that I had to pull out my laptop and write the review this second.

Where do I begin? Okay, here’s the synopsis:

If you’re looking for a story about a sweet, innocent virgin who rides off into the sunset with a reformed bad boy, then you’re looking in the wrong place.

Some people don’t get a happily ever after. Molly Scott is one of those people, and she knows it. With the kind of past that she has, and the secrets that she holds, she knows that even if she found Prince Charming, he wouldn’t want her. She refuses to dwell on her less than ideal situation though. This is her life, no point in complaining.

Logan Wade had his life planned out, until all his dreams came crashing down around him. Now, he’s come back to the town he swore he would never see again to start fresh. He has no plans to ever settle down again, that’s how he ended up back here in the first place.

When Molly and Logan meet, they are forced to rethink the lives they thought they knew and the futures they were so sure they wanted. Suddenly, Molly wonders if there is a better life outside of the hell she has built for herself, and Logan begins to rethink his resistance towards settling down again.

They say love conquers all, but Molly and Logan are about to find out that sometimes love just isn’t enough.

OKAY. Do you got that?

Firstly, this book starts off with a hell of a first line. “No one will ever want you, just remember that.” Let that sink in for a moment.

When I read that line, I was immediately floored. It knocked the wind out of me to be honest. I couldn’t believe what I was reading. It was amazing, it was heartbreaking, it made me miserable to see that jump off the page at me, but it was so fucking brilliant that I had to go get some coffee and my softest blanket to make myself comfortable to prepare for the roller coaster ride.

Molly has just given birth to her daughter and this is what her “boyfriend” (and I use that term loosely to describe Brian James) has to say to her. From the very first line, I could tell that this was not going to be like every other story about the troubled girl with her own personal version of Hell inside the walls of her home, and a cute little country boy who sweeps her off her feet. This is not that kind of story. It is intense, it is brutal, it is emotional, and I could actually feel the author’s words flying off the page and nestling themselves in my heart. I felt every single emotion with Molly. I felt her immediately react to Logan, I felt pain every time Brian talked down to her, and I felt an overwhelming sense of affection any time Molly’s best friend Wynee was in a scene.

I was hooked to this book, to put it simply. I was so angry with Brian—if I could have leapt into this book and kicked his ass, I totally would have—and I found myself falling for Logan. But more than that, I found myself smiling at the fact that even though Molly’s life is pretty much shit, she has a beautiful daughter who brings out the best in her, she has friends who adore her and stand by her side—I mostly smiled because I saw a lot of my friends’ qualities reflected in Wynee (I LOVE her!)—and she has music, which, really, is one of the universal languages that everyone understands.

I am very critical when it comes to books, especially ones that deal with emotional subjects like this one does. I very rarely give a 5 star review, but for this book, I wish I could give it more than just 5. Here’s why:
-I ugly cried. You seriously have to read those three words. I cry over everything, but rarely do I ugly cry. I ugly cried all over the place—red eyes, tissues, face all splotchy, a runny nose, and a headache afterward—because Logan and Molly’s story put me through the ringer.
-I had to hold my breath more than once.  There were so many shocks and turns in this book—and realistic ones! There weren’t twists just for the sake of being twists. They had me on the edge of my seat, and I thought I was going to have a heart attack.
-I considered throwing my phone across the room at least 6 times. You know that moment where you’re reading a book, and something happens and you’re all like, “What the FUCK just happened, and WHY?” Yeah, that happened at least 6 times. I don’t have an eReader, but I have the Kindle app on my phone, and I legitimately considered throwing it at the wall. When a book makes you so angry that you find yourself wanting to ruin your treasured electronic devices over it, it’s got to be good.
-I had a constant inner battle going on between reading faster because I wanted to see what would happen, and reading slower because I wanted to love this book a little bit more along the way, and cherish every single word even more.
-I was in love with Logan from the second he stepped onto the page.
-I felt the urge to hug Molly throughout the whole book. Molly is the most well-rounded character I have ever read. I simply adore her.
-I UGLY CRIED. Seriously, this is SO HUGE for me that it made its way onto my list twice.

But the best part of it is that it wasn’t all painful. It wasn’t all frustrating, it wasn’t all sad, or heartbreaking, or vomit inducing (I felt sick during every scene that featured Brian).

It was sweet, and loving, and gentle, and it was realistic in the way that Molly and Logan’s love wasn’t perfect. It was far from it. Logan isn’t this perfect man with a perfect body and a gorgeous face and a panty dropping smile. Okay, he is, but he is flawed, and he’s got scars too. But Logan and Molly heal each other’s scars together, and they don’t do it within 48 hours. They do it over a slow progression of time, slowly letting each other in, slowly trusting each other more and more each moment they spend together. Molly and Logan are real.

Here are my favorite quotes:
“I can totally see you beating some random chick’s ass.” –Logan
“Don’t ever compare me to Brian James again. I’m not fucking kidding, Molly. I am nothing like him, and deep down you know it. You’re scared. I get it. Shit, I am too. I need to be in your life and I need you in mine. I don’t like being needy, Molly. It’s not a good quality for me to have, but with you, I am. I need you.” –Logan
“That’s what walls are for, Logan, to keep people out. Did you ever think that there’s a reason I have walls? That some pretty fucked up shit has happened in my life to make me this way. Do you really want a friend like that?” -Molly
“Damn, Molls, you can’t honestly still think that boy doesn’t want you! He said he wanted to eat you! What more does he need to do? Buy a billboard on 165? Would that get your attention?” –Wynee
“Fuck me. If this is a dream, then I have no plans of ever waking up.” –Logan
“Molls, you know I love you, but sometimes, you’re fucking stupid.” –Wynee
“Checkmate, bitch!” –Molly
“I could have sworn I heard Logan say he loved me, but just like all the good things in my life, I knew it was only a dream.” –Molly

I believe I have a new favorite author, and rightfully so. K. B. Webb is so talented it’s almost unreal. I cannot accurately describe the love I have for this book, but it is definitely one that I will be reading again and again and again.

Something had changed in the last week - in the last twenty-four hours, actually - and I wanted to know what it was. I sat up abruptly, scowling right back at him.
“Don’t lie to me, Bradley. You may pay me to have sex with you, but I’m not stupid.”
His eyebrows rose at my words. “What does that have to do with anything?”
“Before me, had you ever done this? Paid someone?”
Now he sat up, sighing as he tossed back the covers. Standing up, he walked over to the bar. “Do you want something to drink?”
“No,” I huffed. “I want you to answer me.”
He stiffened, his back straightening even as he poured a drink before replacing the cap. “I don’t like your tone. And I don’t like when you question me.”
“Well, too fucking bad.”
He whirled around, the drink in his hand sloshing over the rim a little, his face growing stormy. “Excuse me?”
“You heard me. I know you have perfect hearing.”
He took a drink, his eyes never looking away from me, but I saw the smirk on his face before he did so. I didn’t say anything else. I waited for him to answer me.
“No.” His sudden words startled me and I jumped at them. “When I met you, it was the first time.”
I cocked my head to the side, raising a brow at him. “Why?”
He shook his head. “I don’t think it’s any of your business.”
I hopped out of the bed and started picking up my clothes. “I guess you won’t mind if I leave and go back home then.”
“What?” He sounded incredulous, but I didn’t look at him. “Lucy, stop.”
“No.” I began getting dressed, my back facing him. “I think leaving is a great idea.”
